Experience

I have been a full-time practicing Guardian ad Litem for over 12 years. Six of these years were with the Guardian ad Litem program associated with the Domestic Relations Office in Austin-Travis County. I have been in private practice for the last 8 years as a privately hired Guardian ad Litem. Prior to becoming a Guardian ad Litem, I worked several years as an Austin-Travis County MHMR liaison assisting mentally ill probationers and parolee's through both the criminal justice and the mental health systems. Some of these folks had offenses ranging from child molestation and murder to DWI. Previously to that position, I worked in the early 90's as an Adult Probation Officer for Travis County, though, I specialized in the mental health and sex offender probation caseload. Much how I described the previous population, these folks had some very serious offenses, sexual assault, child abuse, kidnapping, domestic violence, drug offenses, and yes, some DWI's . My previous experience to probation included working as a lead Caseworker in a busy Austin-Travis County MHMR Mental Health Clinic and working at Austin State Hospital for several years as a lead therapist. I did my practicum for my Master's degree while working at Austin State Hospital. I also did some part-time work as a drug and alcohol abuse education counselor providing classes for probationers in several nearby counties and was an adoption home study provider for Child Protective Services (CPS) for a short time.

Putting It All Together

During my work as a Guardian ad Litem I have investigated some of the most complex, difficult, divorce cases imaginable. Statistically, these are in fact the worse of the worst divorce cases. I was required by the Court to make child custody recommendations and represent the best interest of children during court proceedings. The Guardian's ad Litem job is intensively investigative by nature and requires extensive knowledge of the Texas Family Law Code. It also requires a high degree of expertise and experience in mental health issues, child abuse, child sexual abuse, pornography and how it contributes to divorce, assault, domestic violence, assessment of children, and how all these factors relate to a person's ability to parent during and after a divorce. To make things a little more complex, these issues are then subject to all the different personalities involved, whether it be Child Protective Services (CPS) position on the issue, the psychologist's opinion, or how the parties and their attorneys may view the matter. This is not to mention how the Court, namely the Judge, may feel about a given issue. Becoming a private investigator and helping the general public with child custody and divorce issues was a logical next step.

I'm not your Average Private Investigator

The TLW Difference:

Over the past 10 years I have testified likely a thousand times during bench and jury trials specifically concerning divorce and child custody issues. I have likely mediated and settled just as many divorce related cases. I'm in the unique position to know the majority of individuals involved in divorce disputes, especially family law attorneys and I have been before many of the Family law judges in the past. I know the different agencies and generally how they relate with one another. I am familiar with many of the well-known therapists (the ones who specialize in divorce and child custody) and psychologists in the Austin area and worked at the Domestic Relations Office in their Guardian ad Litem program. I feel quite at home investigating issues surrounding divorce and child custody cases and may have insights that no other private investigator you hire will have. I not only can tell you what a situation may look like from a private investigator's point of view but can also tell you how a Guardian ad Litem might view a situation and what impact a given situation may have with the Court. This unique position can be priceless to you.

I'll tell you a little Secret

I am currently a Guardian ad Litem and I'm still taking appointments. Over the years I saw many folks hire private investigators during the course of their case. The premise was okay but most of the time the execution was lacking. Too often, the private investigator acted improperly, perhaps he became frustrated, and simply turned out to be a harassing nuisance for the other party to complain about during the divorce proceedings. I quickly discovered that rarely the average private investigator knew nothing more about family law or complex mental health issues than how to take pictures for surveillance reasons. After 4 years in private practice as a Guardian ad Litem, I decided to expand my services to include private investigation services, simply because I believe there is a great need for a private investigator in Austin who specializes in this complex arena of family law and cheating spouses.
